About Suzan'ah Free

Self taught on ukulele, guitar and piano, Suzan’ah Free started writing music before she was 10 years old. She attended college as a Music Composition Major, and her first job was working in a recording studio where she sang and recorded demos, radio voice-over work, and learning the ins and outs of music studio production. Her influences were formed from her Father, who loved the Jazz Sounds of the Big Band Era, and her Mother’s combined love of Broadway Tunes and Latin Rhythms from her Spanish Heritage. And in her youth, she became immersed in the Island Rhythms found in the standard songs of old Hawaii.

With her husband, Danny Ellis, they began performing as a duo working the Local Clubs and Special Events scene in Florida. She and Danny performed as the Reverend Danny & Sister Blues, opening for national acts such as Charlie Daniels, KC & Sunshine Band, Mark Chestnut, David Howe and more. Their successful Themed Entertainment Company , Kokopeli Music, produced themed and specialty events for public, private and corporate clients, including a wide range of props and décor for Luaus, Weddings, Casino Nights, Extravaganzas, Halloween, Mardi Gras, Oktoberfest and more! Their band, SRAZZ, presented a lively show featuring a variety of Pop, Island, Jazz, Blues and of course, Suzan’s original tunes.

Suzan was the female lead vocalist from 2007 through 2008 for the 17-piece big band, SWINGTIME, in Melbourne, Florida. She formed SRAZZ in 2009, which originally was a 5-piece jazz band, featuring some of the best jazz musicians around. Currently, Suzan performs solo, or with a duo or trio as KONA BEAT, a Florida Trop Rock Band, playing keyboards and ukelele, presenting a lively show featuring a variety of Pop, Island, Jazz, Blues and of course, Suzan’s original tunes.

With Producer and Arranger Tony Smith, Suzan released her first CD album.  Forever Yours,  featuring ‘touch soul’ songs like “Take my Hand”, “My Angel” , and “In Your Eyes”, followed by upbeat dance songs such as  “Makin’ Moves with You” “Jammy Cakes” and “Heartbeat”. Love songs include “Forever and a Day” a “Forever More”, “In Your Eyes”, which are perfect for Weddings. In honor of her Father and her Husband who both served full careers in the Military, she wrote “Heroes Fight for Peace” and “Candle in the Window”. “Heroes Fight for Peace” was selected as the theme song to honor Fallen Heroes by the Military Group titled “Remembering Our Heroes” which will honor all fallen heroes from the Iraq/Afghanistan war, sometime in 2017.

In 2014, Suzan’ah Free released Ridem of the Islands, her first Trop Rock CD album. Her CD release party was opening for The Beach Boys in January 2015. They include a beautiful remake of “The Hawaiian Wedding Song” as well as island favorites such as the rockin’ “Down at the Luau”, “Surf”, “Chica Chica Rumba” and “Ridem of the Islands”.

Suzan’ah Free  just released her newest Trop Rock CD album Sweet Tropical Dreams Sept. 2016.  She wrote 10 of the 13 songs, and include such songs as “Mojito Mambo”, “Seaside Serenade” and “Wiki Wiki Wiki”.  "Space Coast" is a song she wrote about her favorite place to live, here in Brevard County.  Also noteworthy is her "NO KA OI" which means The Best.  A lovely version of the Tennessee Waltz Hawaiian style is the "Ka'ana pali Waltz" as well as a remake of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" are several of the covers she did on the CD. It's a perfect Beach Party Island CD!

Her first Children’s Book, The Wishing Star, was published by Archway Publishing and was released December 2016.  Her book, along with her music is available for sale on this web site on the SHOP page and available at all other major online retailers.
